The Event

The third running of the ASB Bank Multi-Sport Challenge was held on 5 April, 1998. Major sponsor - ASB Bank. The Te Awamutu Kiwanis did all of the marshalling and much of the timekeeping for the event. This year we had the kind assistance of the Kiwanis Club of Westside Hamilton for the marshalling.

The Prizes

The prizes awarded for 1998 were:

The Course

The six stages for 1998 were:
- A 12 km run from the Te Awamutu Sports Club to the town of Pirongia
- A 25 km mountain bike ride from Pirongia town part way up the local extinct volcano (Mt. Pirongia) and return (6 km road and 19 km off-road).
bike - A 40 km road bike ride from Pirongia town to the local hydroelectric reservoir (Lake Karapiro) via Te Awamutu.
- A 30 km water ski on the lake (6 laps). Spectators will be able to view this section from the Karapiro Domain. Competitors may opt to compete for lesser prizes and skip this leg.
- A 16 km kayak paddle from the base of the Karapiro Dam down the Waikato river to Mystery Creek.
bike - A 20 km road bike ride back to Te Awamutu via Ohaupo.
